Before you sign in
How the online examination works
Read this guide before your exam. Open the link in your examination access email to see the date, start time and duration of your own paper.
Your camera must be on before the exam starts
After you sign in, allow camera access when your browser asks. The paper does not unlock without it. Your video is shared live with your invigilator and stills are kept so the sitting can be reviewed.
What you need
- A laptop or desktop computer with a working webcam. Phones and tablets are not supported.
- An up-to-date Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge or Firefox browser.
- A stable internet connection, and your computer plugged in or fully charged.
- A quiet, well-lit room where you are alone and your face is clearly visible.
- The email address and password from your examination access email.
How the timing works
- Your sign-in details are emailed 30 minutes before the exam starts.
- The paper unlocks at the start time set by your invigilator. Until then you wait in the waiting room with your camera on.
- Once you begin, the timer keeps running even if you disconnect. When time runs out your answers are submitted automatically.
- Your sign-in details stop working at 11:59 PM on the exam day.
You can
- Sign in early and wait in the waiting room until the start time.
- Move between questions and change any answer until you submit. Answers save as you go.
- Use a blank sheet of paper and a pen for rough work.
- Sign straight back in if your connection or power drops. Your answers and remaining time are kept.
- Contact your invigilator if you cannot sign in or something goes wrong.
You must not
- Leaving full screen, or switching to another tab, window or application.
- Refreshing, closing or navigating away from the exam page.
- Copying, pasting, printing, right-clicking or taking screenshots.
- Turning off or covering your camera, or leaving the camera's view.
- Having another person, phone or second screen in the room.
- Using notes, books, websites or any outside help.
- Signing in on a second device or browser while your exam is open.
- Sharing the questions with anyone after the exam.
After you submit
- Your score and pass or fail result appear as soon as you submit.
- If you pass, your certificate is emailed once the Commission has reviewed the results. You will be told when to collect the hard copy.
- If you do not pass, you are booked for a resit and your training institution is told.
